Beyond Caste: Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s Legacy of Justice for All
As an Ambedkarite, I’ve often questioned: If Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar dedicated his life to justice and equality for all, why do people from other castes still hesitate to follow his path? His fight for social justice is well known, and while his ideas benefit everyone, he is predominantly admired by the Dalit community, particularly Buddhists and other Scheduled Castes.
Babasaheb Ambedkar’s groundbreaking contribution to shaping the Indian Constitution changed the lives of millions. He once said, “They cannot make history who forget history.” Yet, we have failed to truly honor his legacy by limiting his identity to just a “Dalit leader.”
While his contributions to democracy, social justice, and human rights are admired around the world, in his own country, his legacy is still predominantly embraced by the Dalit community. This is unfortunate, as his lifelong struggle was never limited to a single group he dedicated himself fully to the upliftment of all marginalized sections, the empowerment of women, the rights of laborers, and the overall progress of the entire nation.
Everyone is quick to claim the rights and special provisions that Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar fought to secure, but when it comes to honoring his legacy and appreciating what he did for society, silence prevails. They benefit from his struggle but refuse to acknowledge the man who made it possible.

"Education is important, and teachers in schools should spread awareness about what he did for everyone so that students learn about him from a young age. This will eventually build trust in him and lead to appreciation of his work. He was a great leader who always believed in and valued education, so more and more curriculum related to Babasaheb should be introduced in schools."
